6/26/07 -- VSC Board minutes (1) Minutes of May meeting were accepted as submitted (2) The treasurers’ report was accepted as submitted --Bruce noted that special events and classes are contributing considerably to our income --The board approved getting the correct signatures on the account (Bill Culman, Marilyn Miller, Dan Landry) -- Teacher dana was saved for a future discussion -- the purchase of backjacks, as requested by Gee, was approved. -- Mary Grace suggested that we investigate hearing assisted devices; Dan will explore this and report back (3) Committee reports Design: We continue to explore the construction of an altar (design is in but no estimate). The shoe shelf discussion continues with Datta. Facilities: Judy Cohen has agreed to represent us in the lease discussions. Dan and Alice will be working with Carol on this. The discussion will resume at the end of July. Program: --Board retreat: 10-5 on July 14. Dharma, visioning (where do we go from here, consensus, governance, etc), gratitude, and food! --The board approved an interim plan for program approval: Dharma friends: people who want such a group will work with Margaret, with some oversight from Carla. They will do their own fliers. We will check with Margaret about doing “the form” so the info can be on the web site. (This needs to be done by a teacher or board member who has access to the site) VSC programming: all classes, retreats and practice events will go through the teacher group for approval, then be submitted to the board. (4) Board officer position: Dan resigned as our chair (many thanks for long years of service!). Ann Zweig is willing to take the position, and was approved (thank you, Ann!) (5) Odds and ends: -- MGO commits to fewer announcements at the end of sittings. Teachers can announce special volunteer needs that seem to require “teacher clout”. --the board would like the design committee to get going on the bulletin board locations (interior and exterior) --Carla: Newsletter deadline July 1 --Carla brought up the idea of the board contributing to health insurance for her. This led to a discussion of the fist aspect of teacher support being a stipend which teachers could use towards particular needs. MGO will check in with Spirit Rock on their insurance plan. --NEXT MEETING: BOARD RETREAT
